Best Practices
Are you in the process of opening a childcare facility or considering the installation of cameras? These are some guidelines and
expert insights for planning your camera setup.
RTSP
RTSP-capable network digital video recorders or IP cameras are required.
Lense Shade
If mounting cameras in an area where intense direct sunlight is unavoidable, consider using dome cameras with a shaded dome.
VAC/VDC
12VDC Cameras should use well-shielded cables that may come in close contact with fluorescent lighting ballasts. Sometimes, it's best to use 24VAC cameras or a well-shielded cable.
Lighting
Place cameras in a location that are not heavily affected by sunlight or other harsh light sources.
Lenses
Whenever possible, use varifocal lenses. These lenses will allow you to get the right field of view for your camera location. While wide angles offer more visible space, seeing the definition in a scene can be more challenging.
Height
Place the camera at a height above 6.5ft from the floor. The lower the camera, the better the image will be for families.
Foot Traffic
Avoid placing cameras in high-traffic areas such as near entry doors, sleep room doors or sink/counter areas.
Dark Area
Cameras capable of day/night operation or operating at very low lux ratings are recommended. Nap time or periods when the lights are off can cause cameras without these capabilities to look grainy.
